Story 1: The Full Sun Sets Down The Yellow River – Chapter 2

Original Author: 是树里

After the dinner, the several men who were not drunk discussed how to send the people that were drunk home.

Xu Riyuan thought that since her home was near, it was more convenient to walk back. Chang He, who was smoking on the side, jangled the key of his car.

He raised an eyebrow and asked: “Need me to drive you back home?”

Xu Yiyan didn’t know why he asked her, but she still awkwardly nodded her head. However, it was after when she got onto his car when she responded: “Well, my house is near here, and would only take me a few minutes to walk to…”

“Seat belt.” As if the man didn’t hear her, he started the car and motioned for her to fasten her seat belt. “Show me the way.”

“Go straight and turn right at the second traffic light.”

“Hua Ting? That’s pretty close.”

Translator’s note: Hua Ting is a community.

Chang He seems to be familiar with this area. He soon guessed where Xu Riyiuan’s residential quarters were. After turning around, he stepped on the accelerator and drove the Audi A8 directly onto the road.

Xu Riyuan thought that he was talking about the proximity of her home, so she said: “Yes, I said that it was very near.”

The man didn’t speak, just laughed, and Xi Riyuan soon knew.

Chang He drove directly into the community and found a parking space that was reserved for Xu Riyuan. Before Xu Riyuan opened the car door, he did not forget to add: “Yes, I said that it’s very close.”

He lived in the same neighborhood as her. No wonder the guard hadn’t even lifted his eyelids when his car had come in.

“Why didn’t I see you in the neighborhood before?”

Xu Riyuan was confused.

The man did not look back and walked towards the building where his home was located: “I just moved here.”

Oh God, this man lived in the building next to her.

Xu Riyuan had asked her friends to help her rent this apartment which had one living room and two bedrooms. One bedroom was for herself, and the other one was used as a dressing room. The room was facing the sun and had a big balcony.

Xu Riyuan liked to enjoy life. Rather than having a worse quality of life, she would be willing to spend a little more money if meant to improve her living standards.

When she opened the door, her Munchkin breed, a long-haired and short-legged cat called Qian Sui, had been waiting for her for a long time. When the cat saw her, she rushed up and meowed.

“Qian Sui honey, mother’s back.”

Xu Ri Yuan squatted to make it easier for the cat to climb up to her legs. She changed her shoes with one hand and swayed the cat with the other. Qian Sui made a comfortable snoring sound. Her eyes narrowed into a slit, and she puffed out her small belly, waiting for her owner to touch it.

“You must be starving, my Qian Sui. Mother will open a can for you.”

Xu Riyuan held the cat on her chest with one hand and opened the can of cat food skillfully with the other hand. Qian Sui smelled the scent and jumped down. The can of cat food was soon licked clean.

“Wait on the bed, I need to shower first.”

Xu Riyuan patted Qian Sui’s head. It seemed that the cat understood the language of people. She tilted her head, yawned, and walked toward the bed with her short legs.

Others have stated before that cats were cold-blooded and immature, but Xu Riyuan’s short-legged cat could be described as clingy and coquettish. Every night, the cat would sleep beside Xu Riyuan and would explode with anger when Xu Riyuan didn’t let Qian Sui sleep beside her.

Over time, Xu Riyuan became used to this cute cat around her. For her, Qian Sui was no longer just a pet, but a family member.

And this night, Xu Riyuan had a good dream.

For the past week ever since the class reunion, Xu Riyuan had never met Chang He in her community. Thinking that he probably didn’t live here often, Xu Riyuan was in a better mood.

She also didn’t want to meet her failed first love every day.

On Monday, people from the magazine office came to work as usual. Her little assistant, Cao Lele, kindly gave her a cup of coffee, then bent down and whispered in Xu Riyuan’s ear: “Did you hear that the office floor above us was rented to someone?”

“Isn’t that good? You can improve the relationship between us and the people upstairs, and maybe some young man will see you and take a liking to you.” Xu Riyuan took a sip of coffee and took out a few packets of snacks from her drawer. “Be careful, don’t let the main editor see it.”

Yuanyuan, I love you!”

“Come on, don’t be so ‘clingy.’ Also, I’d be very grateful if you could stop being careless and making mistakes.”

During the lunch break, it seemed that the people upstairs were moving things. The sounds of their movement were not small. The audible footsteps were mixed with the sound of dragged things, and the noise didn’t allow people to rest. Suppressing her temper, Xu Riyuan went upstairs to reason with them about the noise. As soon as she entered the door, she saw a handsome man in a suit who had a good figure. He was installing a computer with his back to her.

Thinking that it could be someone handsome, the tone of her voice became a bit more gentle and soft. “Sorry, sir, I’m from the downstairs magazine company. Could you please be a bit quieter, we’re on lunch break.”

“Ah, sorry. We’ll pay more attention to our level of noise.”

As soon as Xu Riyuan saw the man’s face, she was speechless. In the morning, she had been glad that she didn’t need to see Chang He’s face again. But unluckily, he had moved his office upstairs of the office building.

The office upstairs was always empty, so she had been surprised about how it was suddenly rented out.

Now, she was not happy at all. Her desire for the remainder of the lunch break to continue disappeared.

The man seemed to recognize her and naturally came forward to say hello: “It’s you, Yuanyuan. Is your magazine company downstairs? What a coincidence.”

“Sorry, we just moved here, so the noise might be a bit loud. Please forgive me. I’ll pay for some afternoon tea.”

“No need.”

Xu Riyuan didn’t even bother to put on a fake smiling face, so she went downstairs quickly, went back to her desk, and began to scold Chang He mentally.

When he went abroad, he had disappeared faster than anything. Now, she was not the naive college student anymore.

Now, she was someone who he couldn’t get.

Don’t even think about it.
