Story 1: The Full Sun Sets Down The Yellow River – Chapter 1

Credits: Amanda & Kathrien

Original Author: 是树里

The title has to do with the characters and a famous Chinese poem. The full sun is Xu Riyuan, and the yellow river is Chang He. Each has to do with their names. An alternative and straightforward title could be just “Chang He and Riyuan.”

Three years after graduation, the classmates met again.

Many females classmates had already married. The quicker ones had already had children. Now, the class grass in the grade had grown fat, with a round belly and shiny bald head. It was quite difficult for people to connect the young and handsome man wearing a white shirt to now, the fat and bald guy.

Editor’s note: “Class grass” means the most handsome boy in the class. Similarly, “school grass” means the most handsome boy in the school.

The man sitting opposite was holding a wine glass in one hand, and the other hand on the people beside him’s shoulder. He talked about his arduous entrepreneurial history, while not forgetting to show off his Mercedes-Benz keys. Meanwhile, a female classmate beside him who had married a rich man was showing off a Dove diamond ring on her hand, and the Hermes Birkin bag that had been bought by her husband for her on their wedding anniversary this year.

“I heard that Yuanyuan’s working on a magazine and was the featured editor for the fashion section.”

Editor’s note: Yuanyuan is a nickname for someone with yuan in their name. Similar to how Jacqueline can be abbreviated to Jackie or Jacky.

Xu Riyuan had listened to the others bragging while sipping on orange juice, and then suddenly heard her name mentioned. She raised his eyes up for a while, before smiling to answer.

“You must’ve been lucky.”

“Those who can enter the TenYuan Culture company are people who have good family backgrounds, let alone the magazine, ‘Cherish.’”

This woman seemed to be determined to make things difficult for Xu Riyuan. Thinking carefully, it seemed that she and her boyfriend had broken up because of Xu Riyuan when they were in college.

It wasn’t surprising.

“Cherish” was a bimonthly women-orientated magazine that was mainly promoted by TenYuan Culture in the past two years. It was divided into five sections: emotion, fashion, photography, food, and tourism. Originally, Xu Riyuan had wanted to go work in the photography section, but had entered the fashion section by accident. And then, she had gone from an unknown assistant to today’s featured editor.

Xu Riyuan drank the orange juice in the glass, and the glass made a soft sound when set onto the table. She dragged her chin with one hand, and the corners of her mouth raised into a beautiful arc, making her cold face more charming: “I’m sorry, I am not talented. I didn’t expect to enter the fashion sector when I was originally interviewed for the photography section.

The flames of war were ignited all at once. At the point where the eyes of the two ladies met, a spark could even be seen.

Everyone here was not stupid. Knowing that the atmosphere was not right, they changed the subject after. Then, the atmosphere soon regained its enthusiasm.

“Yuanyuan, don’t you have a lot of handsome guys in your magazine? Did you become interested in any?”

“How could that be. If you see them all day long, then even the most handsome men will be insipid.

“But I think you’re still very beautiful. You seem a little bit more fashionable than before. As expected, you are a fashion editor, and you are at the forefront of trends.”

Xu Riyuan’s appearance was different from ordinary women, with double inner eyelids, a square face, willow eyebrows, short black hair, and big red lips. She also had a slender waist and long legs. Her whole person looked capable and cold, but a woman’s charm and purity were always revealed inadvertently with a smile. Not everyone had her kind of pure and lustful temperament.

“Isn’t it true,” The man who was talking about his own business’s history rubbed his hands and held the glass on the bridge of his nose. “In our class, the most beautiful girls had been you and Jiangjiang. You were all beautiful people, Each one of you had your own beauty.”

It had been forgotten to be stated, but Jiangjiang was the person who had married a rich man and showed off her Dove diamond ring.

Jiangjiang was very satisfied with these words, and since she was happy, she asked the waiter to add a few more dishes, saying that she would pay for it.

Xu Riyuan did not respond. Instead, she calmly ate the peanuts on the plate in front of her.

“Now, one of the beautiful girls in our class is married, but we don’t know if Yuanyuan has a boyfriend yet.” A married woman just continued with this topic and began to talk, with the incentive of being a matchmaker, “My husband has a friend, a young talent. He’s also single. Do you want him to be introduced to you?”

Xu Riyuan had just wanted to refuse, but the door had opened again, and a male voice was audible: “Sorry for being late, there was some work at the job.”

This person’s voice was very magnetic. It sounded fascinating, but inexplicable, giving people a sense of peace in mind.

Xu Riyuan had wanted to look behind her, but someone had already called out his name in advance-

“Big boss Chang He. As a punishment, you have to drink three glasses of wine for being late.”

“I’m sorry, but I drove here today, so I won’t be drinking. I’ll pay for this meal. Have fun everyone.”

The man’s voice gradually approached, and then he sat down in the only empty seat, which was beside Xu Riyuan. There was a faint aftershave scent on his body, as well as the smell of a man’s perfume. Creed Silver Mountain Spring.

Translator’s note: Creed Silver Mountain Spring is a type of perfume smell. It’s like how the Birkin bag is a type of Hermes bag.

It had to be said that Chang He, this man, matched Xu Riyuan’s taste very well.

Chang He was a very handsome person when he had been a student and was the dream lover of many young girls. He was very responsible and smart. After graduation, he had gone abroad to further his own studies and returned to open his own studio for game development.

Also, one more thing. Xu Riyuan had also once had a good friendship with him.

Yes, once. As for why they didn’t contact each other later, it was because they graduated.

Speaking of which, before, Xu Riyuan was once secretly in love with him. In the name of being a good friend, she had done many things similar to those between couples.

For example, the two people would eat alone together, watch movies, spend their time choosing birthday gifts for each other, take cars home together while on vacations, and so on.

Now when Xu Riyuan thought about it, she still felt a little confused. When he had gone abroad, they disconnected. All the texts she had sent were ignored.

It also included her confession.

So Ms. Xu’s first love of her life ended.

“How were the past few years?”

Xu Riyuan was still here being sad about her first love. However, the first love had reopened a bottle of orange juice and poured it for both of them.

Together with remembering the good times of their youth.

Xu Riyuan rolled her eyes in her heart and clinked her cup against Chang He’s cup with a smile on her face: “As you can see, it’s good.”

The man looked at her without talking. His black eyes were bright as if she could see herself inside those eyes.

“It’s pretty good.”

This concluded the conversation between the two.

After that, the man never took the initiative to talk to her again, and Xu Riyuan would not take the initiative to talk either. Instead, she drank from her cup while playing on her phone.

After Xu Riyuan had finished drinking a cup, Chang He would immediately pour another glass, and after a while, most of the bottle of orange juice had entered her stomach. Xu Riyuan really couldn’t stand it anymore, went out to the restroom, and then stood in front of the sink, smoking.

She didn’t know when did Chang He came out, but he bent over to wash his hands. After his hands dried, he turned around and smoked half of the cigarette in Xu Riyuan’s hand: “It’s better for girls to smoke less.”

Xu Riyuan didn’t say a word, took a look at Chang He, then washed her hands, and went back to the room.

It was Chang He who stared at the back of the person leaving, put the half of the cigarette he had just snatched from Xu Riyuan into his mouth, took a deep breath, and then slowly exhaled.

I’ll take it as if it was an indirect first kiss.
